that you wonder if you can make it to the bedroom? Spend so many hours in front of the computer or talking on the phone to clients that when you get up….you can hardly walk? Do you ever think that if you have to smile at one more customer today….you are going to just lock the door to the bathroom and come out next Tuesday??

In case you are wondering, it’s just been one of those weeks - and it’s only Wednesday, which is really scary. Actually, I have been on the phone AND on the computer just about non-stop since last Tuesday. I wish there was some way to farm out some of this but unfortunately, no matter how much you want to outsource, there are really are times when you simply can’t hire someone else to do what needs to be done.

In my case, it’s because these situations are rare, and it’s my expertise that is the key factor in closing the deal, and finishing the project. I can’t teach someone else what needs to be done in a few days - it took me a few decades to learn it. It’s not practical to hire someone full-time and train them - because this type of ‘over the top’ situation really only happens once or twice a year.

So, for a few days every year, I go ‘underground’, drink lots of coffee (sorry, it’s my vice, but at least I get the really good organic stuff from Costa Rica!), and pull a few really, really long shifts.

The truth is most of that are self-employed go through times like this, it’s just part of the gig if you really want to succeed for most of us.

But, to be honest, it doesn’t really matter. The bottom line is that I am doing exactly what I want to be doing - I work from home, and I call the shots. It’s my choice to work these hours right now, and it will be my reward when the project is completed.

I would love to hear how some of the rest of you handle things when it gets overwhelming - I am sure that I am so NOT the only one that goes through this from time to time!

In the meantime - I am off to fix another pot of coffee…………..
